ensure the sealing effect of Fermadur®, the material requires
a certain minimum deformation.
The joint to be sealed must therefore be measured with accuracy.
When fixing the cord thickness, the changes in joint width to
be anticipated due to movements of structural elements and the
water pressure acting on the joints must be taken intro account.
In addition, the joint design and the surface of structural
parts in the joint area are subject to DIN 18540 sheet 1: "The
interal joint surfaces must be parallel down to a depth of t
= 22 b, but at least 30 mm. The edges of structural elements
must be chamfered. The concrete surface in the joint area must
be tight and the concrete must be sufficiently compacted and
solid. Any mortar used to repair defective spots in the joint
area must be of sufficient solidity and must be hardened crackproof,
have a largely pore-free surface and show sufficient adhesion
in relation to the concrete."
The concrete and mortar joint surfaces can be silicified or
impragnated to improve their sealing values.
Fermadur® requires great care when calculating the thickness
oft the cord as well as thorough knowledge of the methods used
to install it in the joint and to make connections and points
The sealing work with Fermadur® must be carried out by well
trained and experienced specialists only. This is why the material
is normally installed by our own crews or by personnel that
has been thoroughly trained by Denso.
